What is a Bareboat Charter?
  1. A Bareboat Charter is a rental of a private yacht for you and your group.  If you are qualified you may skipper the yacht yourself, or we can arrange for you to hire one of our skippers for your charter.
Is a Bareboat Charter an “All Inclusive” trip?
  1. No, a Bareboat Charter is similar to an AirBnB except it’s a luxury yacht instead of a home.  You will be responsible for provisions, fuel, and other BVI cruising fees, etc. You have the freedom to decide how many meals to cook aboard Two J Seas, and how many meals to eat ashore.  We typically cook more meals onboard than dinners ashore, and only eat a few lunches and dinners ashore based on the group’s desires.  Not only is it fun to cook and eat meals aboard, but it can save significantly on meal and drink costs.  But one of the great benefits of a Bareboat Charter is you get to decide what that balance is!  We usually plan a number of specific meals based on couples’ input, and then provision accordingly for food and drinks.  Having a meal plan will help you avoid “over-provisioning” for your trip.

Entertainment for us usually consists of swimming, snorkeling, exploring beaches, and hiking to popular attractions.  All that is free, but you can also rent optional water toys that they will deliver directly to Two J Seas prior to your departure from the marina.  See “Optional Extras?” FAQ for more information on water toy rentals.

How do I check availability or book a trip?

To check availability, start a reservation, or just want to ask further questions, please don’t hesitate to “contact us”.  It should be noted that if you have specific weeks based on school breaks, Christmas, New Years, etc, you should book those 6-9 months in advance.  Also, follow us on Facebook and Instagram for periodic discounts for those who might have more flexible timing for your vacation.

Why should I book Two J Seas directly through the owner?
  1. Very simply, booking directly through the owner provides you with the best price for your trip, without sacrificing the full service and amenities of the best charter management company in the BVIs.
How much does a 1 week charter cost?
  1. There are 4 different weekly rates based on charter “seasons”.  Retail rates currently range from $8900-$11,900 per week, but rates are subject to change. Once you contact us with potential dates, we can provide more accurate rates…..and remember, you will be getting a discount from those rates since you are booking directly with us. There are a few other mandatory fees collected by TMM, such as Security Insurance & Security Deposit, Cruising Tax, Parks Permit, Cell Phone Rental, VISAR, and any skipper fees (if applicable).
If I don’t have experience with a yacht this size, will a captain/skipper be available?
  1. Yes, we can arrange for a skipper for your charter through our charter management company, TMM. Of course this will require an additional fee for his/her services. See additional info on the TMM website (https://sailtmm.com/skippers).
Are there qualifications if I want to be my own skipper?
  1. Yes.  We require your up-to-date sailing resume before approving you to bareboat skipper Two J Seas. Feel free to submit your resume anytime for pre-approval.  For resume approval, we will be looking for previous experience skippering similar-sized and type vessels. Boat ownership, prior charter experience, and marine certifications such as ASA and RYA are also taken into consideration. If you have not skippered a yacht similar to Two J Seas, or have limited experience, we offer a Check-Out Skipper service. Our Check-Out Skipper will join you on Day 1 and stays on board until late afternoon, giving you extra practice and orientation on your yacht. The fee for a COS is $225 excluding food, drinks, and gratuity.
How do I purchase provisions for my trip?

Do keep in mind this is a Bareboat Charter so there will be no consumables on board (with the exception of a starter of toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, hand soap, and an all purpose cleaner).  We recommend Riteway (rtwbvi.com) for provisioning, but there are a couple of other options we can tell you about if you prefer. We also recommend doing the majority of your provisioning in advance, where Riteway will deliver directly to Two J Seas and load the provisions onboard prior to your arrival.  Advance provisioning does include an extra fee but it is well worth it to maximize time onboard in our opinion.  Having said that, you can choose to do the shopping yourself at the large Riteway in Road Town, and for last minute or forgotten items, it is VERY handy that there is a smaller market just steps from where Two J Seas is docked in the TMM marina. A few items that sometimes get forgotten are TP, paper towels, bug spray, Ziploc bags, trash bags.

How do I get there?
  1. Two J Seas is docked in the TMM marina in Road Town, Tortola, British Virgin Islands.  You will either fly into Beef Island airport (EIS), and we will arrange for a taxi to pick you up and take you directly to the marina.  Alternatively, you can choose to fly into St. Thomas USVI airport (STT), and then you would take a water ferry from there to Road Town, where we would also arrange for a short taxi ride directly to the marina.  Remember this is the British Virgin Islands so you will need a passport, so if you need a passport or a renewal, plan far enough in advance so that it doesn’t become an issue.
What are the yacht amenities?
  1. Please see “The Yacht” page for info on what is included onboard Two J Seas.
How should I pack?
  1. Pack VERY lightly! You don’t really need much more than a few swimsuits, swim shirts, and maybe a couple of shorts/shirts for dinners ashore.  Ladies can bring a sundress or two, but be aware they can be a little difficult when getting in and out of the dinghy. Even though Two J Seas has a decent amount of storage for a yacht her size, it is still a yacht and has limited storage. For that reason, soft side luggage is much preferred. If you are packing more than you can fit into a duffel bag and a small personal item, you are probably overpacking. While packing, a few specific things to remember are: beach towels, shower gel/soap, sunscreen, spices.  You can also just provision some of those things, but small items might fit in your luggage.
Optional Extras?
  1. Kayaks, SUPs, and other water toys can also be rented from BVI SUP CO (bvisupco.com) which offer free delivery and pick up to the charter base.
What is the booking process?
  1. You will contact us with potential dates to determine availability and rates first. Then we will ask you to provide a sailing resume if you plan to be your own skipper.  Once you decide on dates, we will put a hold on those dates for you. A 50% deposit is required 7 days after placing the hold to confirm those dates. The remaining expenses will be due 45 days prior to your charter start date.
What is the cancellation policy?

Charterer may cancel subject to the following charges.

Prior to 90 days before charter start date – $300 cancellation fee  Between 46 and 89 days prior to charter start date – 50% of charter fee.

45 days or less prior to charter start date – 100% of charter fee.

Do I need to bring cash?
  1. Yes. The BVI currency is the US dollar. You will need cash for a variety of things such as mooring fees ($40-$55/night), ice/trash while on the boat, taxi fares. Most establishments take Visa/Mastercard, but you may find a few that only accept cash.
